BELGIAN TECHNICAL COOPERATON

Ramallah � Two training courses for workers in the Local Government sector have been concluded in Ramallah and in the Al-Kafriyat area in Tulkarem. These courses were funded by the Belgian Technical Cooperation and organized in cooperation between the Ministry of Local Government and the Local Infrastructure and Capacity Building Project (LICP). In Ramallah, an 18-hours �Leadership Skills� training course was concluded. During this course fifteen chairpersons of the Local Government Units, Joint Services Councils and directors in the Local Government were lectured by the international expert, Dr. Fathi Yassin. In Al-Kafriyat area (Tulkarem Governorate) a �Women Empowerment in Society� training course was concluded; this training course was conducted to strengthen the role and participation of women in decision-making. The course was organized in coordination with the Center for the Development of Local Government (under the Ministry of Local Government) and consisted of a 15-hours training, targeting 20 participants of different Local Governments Units in the Al-Kafriyat area.

Majeda Nabhan, LICP Programme Director, said that those training courses were carried out in order to raise the efficiency and performance of workers in the Palestinian Local Government Sector and in order to help them carry out their work to the fullest by providing quality and advanced services to the public.

Hatem Musallam, Director of the Center for the Development of the Local Government Units, stressed the importance of these training courses for the civil servants of the Palestinian Local Government Sector and the extent of their contribution to the refinement of their capabilities and their ability to carry out their duties. He also thanked the Belgian Technical Cooperation for its support in organizing such courses.
